Praying through Pregnancy

Laying your hopes, fears, joys, and trials before the Lord as you grow your baby.

When you’re expecting a child, it’s easy to be overcome by your emotions. We can easily swing from pure joy to overwhelming worry in a matter of moments. It can all feel like so much. Mercifully, we have a God that wants to hear our struggles, knows our fears, and is always willing to listen! No prayer is too small or simple, or too great for our Lord!

My hope is that these prompts can be a springboard for your prayer life throughout your pregnancy and beyond. Adjust and change them to apply to your particular requests and petitions, or pray them as written!

Prayers for Fertility

Lord, our Heavenly Father, if it is your will please allow us to conceive. You know the plans You have for us, and You can see our future family, whole and complete with as many children as You have planned for us. We would love to be parents, if possible. Please help us see the path to making it so! In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen!

Lord, You see the desires of my heart. Please reveal to me the path to motherhood! You see my struggles, You feel my pain, You know the yearnings I hold for a child. Grant me peace as I wait for Your timing, and help me know what to do as I wait. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Dearest Lord Jesus, it’s so hard to see other mothers with bellies and babies, when I have none. Please be in my heart that I can feel joy for them mingled with my sadness. Work in my heart as I wait. Be in my mind that it turns always to You with my hopes and fears. Jesus, grant me Your mercy and grace! In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Prayers for the First Trimester

Heavenly Father, I sing Your praises for the beautiful child you’ve knit together in my womb! Thank you for entrusting me with this tiny life. Please continue to care for me and my baby as he or she grows. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Lord of all things, please ease my discomfort! Care for me in my nausea, and allow me to receive the hydration and nourishment I need to stay healthy and grow this baby. Be with me in my weakness and hold me in Your strength. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen

Lord Jesus Christ, Your sacrifice has given me the hope of eternal life in You! Please hold my anxiety over the life of my unborn baby. Take away my fears, and grant me Your Peace that surpasses all understanding, knowing that You hold my baby and I in Your hands. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Prayers for the Second Trimester

Lord, thank you for relief from nausea! I am so grateful for this renewed energy. Please continue to support my baby’s growth and development. Be with me in my days, as I plan and prepare for my birth and postpartum. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Heavenly Father, please grant me healthy nourishment. If it is your will, let my blood sugars be perfectly balanced, and let my body process the food I consume well, for my benefit and my baby’s. Please be with me as my provider tests my body for this proper functioning. Let me feel healthy and well, and let the test show perfect health. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Lord Jesus, please support our marriage. As we plan for the arrival of this sweet baby, and the expansion of our family, let our focus always be on You. Be our foundation, and let our marriage always be a priority, even when stresses and discomforts make this difficult. Show us the way You love the Church, so we can model our marriage after this Love. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen!

Prayers for the Third Trimester

Father in Heaven, thank you for bringing me into this final trimester of my pregnancy! As my body and baby continue to grow, grant me restful sleep, comfort, and energy. When I tire, remind me to rest. When I struggle, remind me of Your grace. When I feel I can’t go on, remind me of Your mercy. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen.

Lord, calm my spirit. You know my wishes, hopes, and fears for my labor and birth. Let Your Holy Spirit whisper only words of truth and love into my heart. Send the enemy running when he tries to create anxiety in my mind. Help me plan, but remind me to trust: Thy Will be done. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen!

Jesus, sit with me in my waiting. Grant me Your patience, and Your peace that passes all understanding. You know how hard the waiting is, but You know my baby’s birthday, and how my labor will go, and I trust that You hold all things in Your hands! Support me in this time, as I stand on the edge of the unknown. Hold me close, and let me rest in Your goodness and grace. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for all You have done, and all that You are! Amen and Amen!

Prayers for Labor and Birth

Lord, be in my breath. I breathe in Your mercy, I breathe out my fear. I inhale Your grace, I exhale my tension. Inhale peace, exhale worry. Amen!

Heavenly Father, please be with me in my birthing time. Let all go according to your will. Let my baby be in the best position for birth, and my body relax and open beautifully the way it was designed. Grant me comfort and peace through each wave of intensity, and bear me up through all challenging moments! In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Dearest Jesus, You are my rock and my Salvation, whom shall I fear? Bind all my anxious thoughts and send my fears away. Be with me through this experience, and let my confidence in You be all I need to overcome pain and avoid suffering. Hear me now as I pray: Lord have mercy! Christ have mercy! Lord have mercy! Amen!

Prayer for a Difficult Diagnosis

Lord, I cry to you, hear my voice! Grant me your mercy and peace. You know the pain and anxiety in my heart. If it is Your will, grant us miraculous healing for our baby. If it cannot be, hold us in Your arms and carry us through this difficult time. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer! Amen!

Heavenly Father, teach me to be the father You designed me to be. Guide me in Your ways, and lead me. Help me lean on You as I begin this journey of fatherhood, and continue to support me all the days of my life! In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Prayers for Postpartum

Lord, I’m so tired! Heal my body and soothe my mind. Help me to care for this precious new baby. Grant me Your strength when mine falters, Your patience when mine is low. Thank you for Your abundant blessings and the safe arrival of my sweet babe. Guide me as I begin this journey, and always! In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

Heavenly Father, thank You! Thank You for this baby, thank You for all You have done for us! Be with us always, and continue to support us as we learn each other and grow as a family! Amen and Amen!

Lord Jesus, please care for me as I care for my baby. Guide my thoughts and emotions toward You. Remind me of Your grace and mercy, and encourage me as I move through each day. In Your Holy Name I pray, Amen!

I truly hope that these prayers bless you and support you during this time of joy, change, and growth! Our God is so good to us, and He loves when we meet Him in prayer!

Blessings, Lisa
